Breaking the Cycle : How Resource Gaps Impact Sri Lanka's Young Learners
Thousands of students in underserved areas face challenges like limited school supplies, inadequate facilities, and financial constraints that hinder their education. Many travel long distances to schools that lack basic resources, making learning difficult. Despite these hardships, students show incredible resilience, emphasizing the need for programs that provide educational and health support to unlock their potential.

Economic Hardships
In Sri Lanka, education inequality is rapidly widening, particularly among children from low-income households. The economic distress of recent years has led to an alarming rise in school dropouts, with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (Central Bank of Sri Lanka, 2023), over 9,200 children left primary education in 2020 alone—a number that likely increased in 2022.
Vulnerable families, already struggling with financial hardship, have been forced to cut education-related expenses, exacerbated by skyrocketing prices of school supplies due to inflation. The shortage of essential learning materials like stationery is further compounding the challenges faced by underprivileged students, severely impacting their ability to succeed in school and widening the gap in learning outcomes.

The Solution
We partner closely with local schools, teachers, and community leaders to identify the most vulnerable families and provide them with what they need to continue their schooling. This includes but is not limited to:
Ensuring underprivileged children have access to a year’s supply of essential school supplies including stationery and other accessories to attend school, Conducting awareness programs for parents on the importance of investing in their children’s education, Providing access to technologies such as computers to enhance digital literacy, Where required, providing any other necessities that will empower children to continue attending school.
